Instituto para la Investigación Educativa y el Desarrollo Pedagógico IDEP

The Institute for Educational Research and Pedagogical Development (IDEP, for its initials in Spanish), is a public funded organization, belonging to the city of Bogotá (Colombia). It holds legal existence, administrative autonomy and patrimony of its own. It was created for the direction, coordination and execution of research programs—both basic and applied—in the socioeducational and pedagogical fields.

The research exercises promoted and developed by IDEP, take place in at least three areas:

1. As a fundamental input for teacher education
2. As a privileged scenario for the connection between educational public policies and pedagogical experiences of teachers
3. As a way to create pedagogical and educational knowledge.

These areas aid in the materialization of the objectives determined for the Institution, namely:

• Increase de number of expert, researcher and teacher teams interested in contributing their knowledge for the strengthening of the academic and transformative potential of the education sector of the city.
• Create the necessary links between groups and entities with common educational interests, but diverse action priorities; in short to enable communication between policymakers, Academics and researchers, and teachers.
• Create a trustworthy link between research communities (their proposals) and decision makers
• Create bonds with other cities within the country, and others internationally, that share similirities with Bogotá
• Propose and motivate pedagogical programs in public educational entities focusing on citizenship
• Promote a new interpretation of the teachers’s cultural and social role, not only as a performance professional, but also as subject of his or her daily pedagogical practice and his or her own reflection upon it—with discursive and practical autonomy, free from legal, academicist and technocratic demands
• Strengthen the public intention of education in the city, understanding it as possible field, at other times as object or as subject, and definitely as a goal in the research exercises. IDEP, beyond the production of pedagogical knowledge, contributes in guaranteeing the democratization of this production and, concurrently, of its benefits.

IDEP is the public institution in the District of Bogotá, linked to both national and international partners, key to the promotion, production and expansion of pedagogical knowledge

Strategies

• Publish and communicate processes and results of the projects performed by IDEP
• Establish alliances with local, national and international institutions that can enhance the achievement of the goals determined for IDEP
• Link IDEP with educational policy making in the context of the Bogotá City Region.
